Serious studies are carried out in Armenia now. Ago’s Group from Council of Europe wants to find how Armenia meets the commitments on its way to joining CE.

At all the meetings the group head referred to 3 main issues, as he assured - capital punishment must be abolished in Armenia, the Electoral Code must be amended after the elections assessed negatively, and Constitution must be changed, too.

Parliament Speaker Arthur Baghdasaryan promised Ago’s Group to study all the bills together with the Parliament to amend the Laws as Europe suggested.

Ago’s Group met both Authorities and 2 Opposition groups of Parliament. During the meeting Opposition convinced the group that it appraises as positive implementation of Armenia’s obligations.

One of the groups informed Mr Ago it will keep disputing the results of the parliamentary elections in Armenia .

Though Ago and his group were given to promises, however, the Europeans don’t want the Armenian to feel guaranteed themselves in Council of Europe.

Ago’s Group is still displeased: “We are now dissatisfied that the process of meeting obligations is being dragged out. We were promised to that the problems will quickly be settled”.

To become a CE-country Armenia must completely meet its obligations by the end of the year.
