LORD RUSSELL JOHNSTON IS OPTIMISTIC ABOUT UPCOMING PARLIAMENTARY ELECTION

PACE hopes that everything will go on in due course, Lord Russell Johnston, who is in Armenia on three-day trip in the frame of PACE pre-election mission, told journalists today.

PACE special delegation will watch the process of the parliamentary election scheduled for May. The aim of visit is to learn what progress is made in prevention of election irregularities occurred at the first and the second rounds of the presidential elections held the last year.

Speaking about his meeting with Members of Constitutional Court and Central Election Commission, the PACE representative however denied commenting on the CC recent decision on Stepan Demirchyan’s suit against the CEC.

Lord Russell Johnston portrayed the CC’s chair Gagik Harutyunyan as “a very good and justice-minded person”.

The head of the CEC Artak Sahradyan confessed that “the meeting was very complicated to him”, as he was reluctant to justify himself because of voting irregularities and added he wonders why the irregularities took place at that very moment when international observers were present at the particular polling station.

It isn’t clear yet what type of ballot boxes will be used on May 25.
