PACE HELD SESSION

Politics

The PACE held a five-day session last week. Lord Russell-Johnston delivering a report on the presidential elections in Armenia made quite mitigated judgement about the election process.

Instead, Azerbaijan’s representative Ilkham Aliev made a flaming speech on democratic values. “Aliev shouldn’t speak about democracy, as Armenia any case is a step ahead of Azerbaijan in this area as well as in other spheres”, says the head of the Armenian National Assembly commission on foreign affairs Hovhannes Hovhannissyan.

In his opinion, Russell Johnston’s speech was steady enough. “Lord stated that there were some election irregularities in the election process but at the same time expressed hope that such kinds of shortcomings wouldn’t be repeated at upcoming parliamentary elections”, Hovhannissyan says.

Armenian delegation offered the CE to send a mission to observe parliamentary elections in the republic. Th CE accepted the invitation.
