LAWMAKERS HOLD TRADITIONAL BRIEFINGS

Politics

One of the key issues interested journalists at today’s parliamentary briefings were related to challenging presidential elections’ legitimacy in Constitutional Court.

Member of “Voice of People” parliamentary group Shavarsh Kocharyan said he had no expectations for Constitutional Court. Despite the Court members’ assurances that there was no pressure made on them, the MP is convinced that the pressure by the republic authorities is inevitable in our country.

Leader of parliamentary majority Galust Sahakyan expressed an interesting opinion saying it would be very dangerous to the country to satisfy Stepan Demirchyan’s suit against Central Election Commission. “Such a precedent should be avoided”, he said.

Dashnaktsutyun and Orinats Erkir are more liberal-minded parties of ruling wing. Armen Rustamyan and Mher Shahgeldyan said they are acting according the law and ready to accept any decision of the Constitutional Court to be made soon as a result of impartial and comprehensive scrutiny.

All political forces agreed on one point: whatever decision is made, it will be of political nature.
