PARLIAMENTARY ELECTION CAMPAIGNING GROWING HOT

Politics

On parliamentary election footing, political parties are being increasingly involved in wrangle with each other. This time, discord erupted between Republican Party and Union for National Self-determination.

A film shown on a number of the republic channels generated discord between the parties. The film was shown as evidence that the only post-soviet-era achievement, Armenia’s independence, had been obtained just thanks to Republicans’, in particular their leader and current prime minister Andranik Margaryan’s efforts.

Protecting his “monopoly” on independence at today’s press conference, UNS leader Paruyr Hayrikyan said the National United Organisation, a member of which he had been once, had struggled for independence yet in soviet epoch. Hayrikyan also reminded that he himself had always enjoyed world-wide reputation for his strict adherence to the idea of independence and had been sent into exile in 1988 for that.

“I testify with full responsibility that the Republican Party has never had anything in common with the NUO. What about Andranik Margaryan, he has been its member only from 1973 to 1974 and then condemned by the NUO for being negligent of the organisation principles. And later, today’s premier being a member of Armenian National Committee has been struggling against the idea of independence”, Hayrikyan said.

As all this fuss was made because of parliamentary elections, predictions concerning coming event were voiced.

Paruyr Hayrikyan presented results of some poll that said 3% of votes is the all the Republicans could reckon on.
