COURT IN SESSION
Support A1+!Hearing on suit filed by presidential candidate Stepan Demirchyan’s proxy Ashot Sargssyan against Central Election Commission is held today at first instance court.
Sargssyan filed a lawsuit in court accusing a number of polling stations’ commissions of idleness and demanding to compel the CEC to declare their illegal decisions invalid.
The suit contains evidence of serious breaches of Electoral Code such as unjustified rejection by the commissions of complaints of proxies.
Inspection was conducted at only 5 of 84 polling stations where vote results were challenged, suit says. It is remarkable that the inspection was carried out only in those 5 polling stations where election irregularities were made in favour of both presidential candidates while massive illegalities committed in the rest 79 polling stations remained ignored, because monitoring wasn’t held here. Meanwhile, it could be crucial for polling results.
Chair of the CEC Nune Hovhannissyan speaking against the suit said it related to election results and their challenging, therefore it should be submitted to Constitutional Court. She also said 53,000 votes in 70 polling stations could not impact total summary.
The court is to deliver its decision on March 14 at 11:00 local time.
