CAUCASUS MEDIA INSTITUTE TO START MEDIA MONITORING ON FEBRUARY 26

Politics

As the election campaigning enters the second round on February 26, Caucasus Media Institute starts the mass media monitoring, Mark Grigoryan, the institute Deputy Director, said in an exclusive interview with Ayb-Fe news agency.

Speaking on state-run Public Television, which failed to highlight the opposition-staged rallies criticising them instead, Mr.Grigoryan said:”How can they criticise something without showing it on their channel”.

He says he was surprised by media outlets’ attitude toward presidential candidate Stepan Demirchyan. “From very beginning of election campaign he was portrayed in the media as a person whom his supporters honour by lamb by sacrificing lambs, then he was depicted as Karen Demirchyan’s son, after that he was labelled as a dismal candidate. Eventually, he was called a candidate backed by Armenian Nation-wide Movement”, Grigoryan said without making any judgement. He only said it is remarkable that Demirchyan’s image has undergone such a transformation in a number of media outlets simultaneously.
