KARABAKH TO ACCEPT ANY ARMENIAN PRESIDENT ELECTED

Politics

“There is no freedom of speech in Karabakh”, says Ruzan Ishkhanyan, a member of Stepanakert’s Press Club. In her opinion, some progress is still seen in this sphere, however, any opposition-minded journalist could face trouble. In fact, there is no the opposition in Karabakh and political parties, as a rule, undertake some activity only at the time of election, Ishkhanyan says.

Stepanakert’s Press Club hasn’t supported any part and any presidential candidate for 5 years of its activity. It is remarkable, that most of the club’s 20 members are working in pro-governmental media outlets.

The club members miss no chance to meet with their Azeri colleagues for discussion even if these meetings held in Baku.

“We are determined to display Karabakhi republic’s independence if only on journalistic level. Willy-nilly Azeri journalists will take into account the reality”, Ruzan Ishkhanyan says.

In her words, Karabakhi residents keep themselves in touch with the process of presidential elections to be held on February 19 in Armenia, despite the fact that Armenian citizens living in Nagorno-Karabakh Republic have no opportunity to vote.

Ishkhanyan also said she hoped the president to come to power through fair and just way. “Whoever wins the election he’ll become the leader of the state and we’ll accept him”, she said.
