OPPOSITION CAN HARDLY BE CONSOLED
Support A1+!Armenian Embassies can be occupied with arranging presidential elections. At today’s sitting CEC made a decision over how our compatriots, residing abroad, will carry out their suffrage.
The most controversial one was the issue of the election lists . National Unity representative Zaven Pluzyan says thousands of Armenians reside and work abroad, though still registered in Armenia.
For instance, any Armenian citizen, living in Russia, has a right to apply to Armenian Embassy and be involved in the election lists.
But his or her name will be included in the election list of the appropriate settlement in Armenia. Election Law Code prohibits to grant the same voter suffrage to elect in several election districts .
Dashnaktsutyun representative Hamlet Mkhitaryan, introducing decision draft, suggested Embassies to make election lists and to send them to CEC not later than5 days earlier the elections.
Committee will send the information about those in the lists to the appropriate election districts and the names of those people will be eliminated from the lists in Armenia.
This mechanism allows to solve the problem partly only as the order for making additional lists functions in the Embassies and Consulates.
The additional lists are being made 5 days earlier the elections. Even on election day – February 19, any citizen of Armenia can enter Armenian Embassy to USA, e.g., introduce a passport and vote.
CEC decided that it would be technically unable to get information from Embassies and make corrections to the lists in such cases.
Explanation by Committee Chair Artak Sahradyan that usually a few thousands people out of hundreds of thousands, residing abroad, take part in the elections, can hardly console the Opposition .
It was obvious they wanted to do so that hundreds of thousands of votes, stated by Sahradyan, are not made use of for election irregularities and “written” in favour of any candidate .
