SOME WRINKLES OVERSHADOWED CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHT UNION'S CONFERENCE
Support A1+!Unlike other parties’ conferences, there were some pro-governmental MPs and even the head of parliamentary majority Galust Sahakyan at the Constitutional Right Union’s conference held Saturday.
Representatives of all opposition parties included in the Alliance of 16 were present at the Constitutional Right Union Saturday’s event, excepting only Socialist Armenia Union ones and Communist Party’s leaders, who recently united with Artashes Geghamyan’s National Unity creating People Patriotic Union and intend backing Geghamyan’s candidacy. It’s not a secret, that Constitutional Right Union was National Unity’s ally. That’s why it seems very strange that no room was found for the CRU in this newly created alliance, and the CRU, in turn, announced that it is going to support Aram Karapetyan’s candidacy instead of Geghamyan’s.
Geghamyan is hardly to come to terms with this. Despite the fact that Geghamyan welcomed the conference at the very beginning of the event, the National Unity retired from the hall while Karapetyan’s speech.
Dashnaktzutyun party representatives have not attended the conference believed because of the party meeting in Tsakhkadzor held at the same time. Despite their absence MP Aghasi Arshakyan addressed them urging not to back Robert Kocharyan’s candidacy at coming presidential elections. “Otherwise, we will have to rid Armenia not only of Kocharyan, but also Dashnaktzutyun”, he said.
