ANY PROGRESS IMPOSSIBLE WITHOUT DEMOCRACY

Politics

“A decade of independence is a lost time for Armenia”, said Shavarsh Kocharyan, the head of the parliamentary commission on education, at the seminar held Thursday by “Public Dialogue Development” organisation.

In his opinion, Armenia is trying to head for the road of democracy, omitting the fact that the country is not democratic at all and, moreover, it is actually a despotic one. However, he is sure Karabachi victory completely changed Armenians reputation for always-crying nation.

Former Prime Minister Armen Darbinyan, speaking on economy-relating issues, expressed his satisfaction with the economic policy pursued by the republic former authorities, mentioning however that they were mistakably trying to implement economic reforms simultaneously with a bid to reach economic growth.

Slavonic University rector Darbinyan said he didn’t think the republic had accomplished a great deal in the field of economy for the years of independence.

National Assembly’s Vice-Speaker Tigran Torosyan, in turn, finds it a useless effort to carry out any economic reform in a lawless country.
