Armenia-Turkey: paving ways for dialogue and reconciliation
Dirk Lorenz, Head of Political, Economic, Press and Information Section at the EU Delegation to Armenia, made an opening speech at the conference entitled “Armenia-Turkey: paving ways for dialogue and reconciliation.” The conference is initiated within the framework of the Programme Support to the Armenia-Turkey Normalisation Process: Stage Two, financed by the European Union, to empower and engage the civil societies of Turkey and Armenia, to contribute to the enhanced regional peace and stability, democratic pluralism and social inclusion across and within the two societies. The aim of the conference is to facilitate academic and policy dialogue, improving information flow, communication exchange and networking between researchers, experts, media representatives and institutions through engaging already existing and new actors in economic, cultural, educational, and awareness-raising activities between Armenia and Turkey. Dirk Lorenz stressed that interpersonal relations play an important role in conflict transformation and creation of stable peace. Further development of business and trade relations will benefit citizens of the two countries.
