Lavrov: Russian military base deployed in Armenia is ready to fight IS
“The Islamic State (IS) terror group which is outlawed in Russia does not intend to lay down its arms. The militants of the terror group are active not only in the Middle East and Northern Africa, but also near the Russian borders,” Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said in an interview with Mir-24 Russian TV channel. The diplomat expressed conviction that Russia is determined to make the terror group surrender. “Currently it [the Islamic State] has been stepping up its activities in Afghanistan as well, particularly in its northern regions, which border with our ally states. The military units of the CSTO member states are in constant combat readiness, so are the Russian military bases deployed in Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan and Armenia. As long as this plague (the IS) is not stamped out, our priorities will not change,” Lavrov said.
