Hospital for convicts may close down (video)
Minister of Justice Arpine Hovhannisyan today at the Government session presented the concept of modernization of medical services at penitentiary institutions. Taking into account international commitments undertaken by Armenia and current problems of the sphere, the Ministry of Justice proposes several options for improving the services: “First, to provide secondary professional medical aid to prisoners only in civil hospitals and close down ‘Hospital for convicts’. Second, reequip the hospital turning it to an institution providing medical aid and service in a certain professional way,” noted Minister of Justice Arpine Hovhannisyan. The Minister also proposes that if anyway decision is made not to close down the hospital, to move the hospital, which is now under supervision of Criminal executive department, under the supervision of either Ministry of Justice, Government or Ministry of Health.
