Cuts in gas and electricity prices, fines and penalties collected from drivers who cross red line road markings and exceed the speed limit have purely pre-electoral character, says the chairman of the New Times party (NZhK). Aram Karapetyan believes that the ruling Republican Party of Armenia (HHK) does not have any intention to make radical changes ahead of the 2017 parliamentary elections. The main issue that should bother our citizens is to think why Serzh Sargsyan, who has been the country’s president since 2008, did not initiate these changes in the past. “This PR will last only six months, even they [Republicans] are speaking about it with special cynicism. I do not know any country in the world where the new government presents a program for a period of six months,” the NZhK leader said. Aram Karapetyan believes that the primary concern of the authorities is to get votes in the upcoming elections. Even mass distribution of electoral bribes may not help them in the 2017 elections. The politician has noticed a certain cynicism in the actions of the authorities. “The authorities have reached high levels of cynicism. They say ‘we want to do everything for our reproduction and now we are laying foundations for it. We have lowered gas tariffs, we have done this or that thing, we have collected additional votes and the like.”
