Though the Armenian National Congress (HAK) has been invited to participate in the celebrations dated to the 25th Anniversary of Independence, it will not attend the festivities. Secretary of the HAK faction, Aram Manukyan, says they will celebrate the holiday but ‘with people who fought for independence.’ “We do not have any desire to celebrate Independence Day with anti-independence forces. It is the acting regime that fractured and destroyed our independence,” he stressed. During the meeting with journalists, Aram Manukyan presented his newly published collection of documents entitled “25th Anniversary of Armenian Independence.” The collection was compiled by Ashot Sargsyan, Babken Ararkstyan and Aram Manukyan. The HAK representative added that Armenia was the first country in the former Soviet Union to start independence movement. "Unlike other countries that adopted decisions and decrees of independence, Armenia held an independence referendum. This was not accidental as referendum results are irreversible from international and legal perspectives,” he said. The Public Council recently proposed that the three presidents of the country be present at the celebrations. Speaking about the proposal, Mr. Manukyan said [first President and HAK Leader] Levon Ter-Petrosyan would not participate in the celebrations.
