Vahan Babayan says he has not been offered ministerial portfolio (video)
Vahan Babayan, Chairman of the newly formed Reformists political party, says the government led by former Prime Minister Hovik Abrahamyan managed to maintain the pace needed to ensure stability in the country. However, the pace was not satisfactory to achieve tangible results and develop the country. The lawmaker says the resignation of Hovik Abrahamyan and the appointment of his successor, Karen Karapetyan, should be analyzed in terms of the country’s development. “It is too early to speak about desires. Some want Armenia to resemble Singapore, but no government will be able to realize the wishes and imagination of its people in 6-7 months. We should not deceive ourselves,” Mr. Babayan said. He stresses that in order to ensure development we should first form a good team of managers, who will be able to register success in a short period of time thanks to their hard work. “The new government should try something like Blitzkrieg, take drastic steps and find quick solutions. I think it is wrong to give early assessments for I do not know whether the cabinet will do it or not,” the lawmaker said. In reply to A1+’s observation that according to press reports he is likely to receive a ministerial portfolio in the new government, Mr. Babayan said he had not received such an offer. “Once I receive the offer, I shall think about it,” he said. The lawmaker added that he had proposed changes in social, economic, environmental, energy sectors and was ready to cooperate with the new government.
