Artavazd Nalbandyan, President of the Armenian Mas-Wrestling Federation, and his pupils have been sharply criticized recently for ‘participating in the World Nomad Games.’ “From 1 to 4 September, we participated in the 2nd Mas-Wrestling World Championships in Issyk-Kul Region while Armenian media presented the competitions under the name of World Nomad Games, causing a great stir and even insulting some of our athletes,” Artavazd Nalbandyan said today. In reply to journalists’ question how it happened that our athletes participated in the opening of the Second World Nomad Games, Mr. Nalbandyan said the venue of the two games coincided. “We were offered to participate in the opening ceremony of the World Nomad Games as guests but we did not participate in the Nomad Games. The point is that the Mas-Wrestling Federation closely cooperates with the administration of the World Nomad Games and decided to hold the two championships simultaneously,” Mr. Nalbandyan said. He added that the Ministry of Sports and Youth Affairs was aware of their participation in the Mas-Wrestling World Championships and did not try to hinder them.
