Real Madrid will have a women's team in the new season, AS daily reports. Real remain one of the four La Liga teams that still don’t have a ladies side. The other three teams are Getafe, Las Palmas and Celta Vigo. The management of the club represented by club president Florentino Pérez Rodríguez was against having a female team for a long time. However, he had to listen to the fans and agreed to open a women’s team. Real Madrid’s main rival, FC Barcelona, founded a women's football team - Club Femení Barcelona - in 1988. It is one of the most successful women's football teams in Spain and has become champion of the Spanish women's football league three times. It won the 1994 Copa de la Reina. It had a successful 3-year run in the early 1990s, winning the 1994 national cup and being the championship's runner-up in 1992 and 1994.
