Armenians not interested in encyclopedias (video)
June 1 is unofficially marked as Day of Encyclopedias. Director and editor-in-chief of Armenian Encyclopedia publishing house, Hovhannes Ayvazyan regrets to say that encyclopedias do not have demand in Armenia. “Recently, we published about 9000 copies of textbooks. As for encyclopedias which are published once or twice a year, they came out in 1500 copies,” he said. Mr Ayvazyan is hopeful that encyclopedias will still be on demand in the country. Asked whether his hopes were justified given the fact that any piece of information can be found on the Internet today, Hovhannes Ayvazyan said, “All information available on the Internet is taken from encyclopedias. I assure you that this information is accurate and verified. “One of the victories of the encyclopedia is that the Internet is flooded with our books. They were posted on the Internet without our permission but we do not mind it. Besides, there are many people who know that if they want to get accurate information, they should search for it in the encyclopedia and not on the web,” he said.
