Mughdusyan Art Center at risk of closure (video)
30 children attending Mughdusyan Art Center may be deprived of the chance to receive free art education: the center operating since 2014 is at risk of closure. “We changed the place of the center, and problems arose, because we weren’t able to find another area at moderate prices,” Mariam Mughdusyan, founder-director of the center, told “A1+”. On June 1st, on the International Children’s Day, Mughdusyan Art Center will present the works of the center’s pupils at Tumanyan Park. Mariam hopes that it will not be the last exhibition, as the pupils of the center are mainly from disadvantaged families. “There are also children from not disadvantaged families, whose parents make donations to the center, and if there is extra money, we buy paints for the children from disadvantaged families, and we try to cover the area rent with the money got from the master classes with adults. But now we understand that we cannot continue in this way,” she noted. Mariam Mughdusyan doesn’t pin hopes on the state institutions; she has applied to some of them but in vain. The painter notes she is ready to do everything so that the center isn’t closed.
