Eduard Sharmazanov to Vartan Oskanian: It means you were neither legal nor legitimate (video)
Vice-Speaker of the Armenian National Assembly, Eduard Sharmazanov, made an extraordinary speech during the debates on the final version of the draft Electoral Code. “Looking into your eyes I declare that this draft suggests proportional representation. There are different versions of the EC in the world. The version we offer you is applied in Central Europe and the Baltic States. Speaking about the involvement of party representatives in PR open lists, Mr Sharmazanov asked whether the issue matters if the given political force does not have appropriate number of representatives in a constituency. “Politics implies serious team work. How many parties can you name that participated in local elections? I shall tell you now – Alliance and Civil Contract. Yes, people are working,” he said. Mr Sharmazanov also answered a statement of former Foreign Minister Vartan Oskanian who said on Wednesday that elections in Armenia have been rigged for twenty years. “And these words are said by a person who held a high position in Armenia? I have not heard such announcements in the past, at least in public. If you announce now that elections have been rigged for 20 years it means during your tenure in office as Foreign Minister of Armenia, in 1998, 2003, you were neither legal nor legitimate… People say in such cases: my tongue is my enemy."
