George Clooney: “It is genocide, there can be no other version”
“I am very proud that I am here and taking part in this award,” said George Clooney, Aurora Prize Selection Committee Co-Chair, filmmaker and philanthropist, today, at the K. Demirjian Sport and Concert Compound at the opening of the Second Global Forum Against the Crime of Genocide, “What forced me to come here; it is my first visit to Armenia and I am very happy for being present at this excellent event. In fact we live in a very complex world; we always say that it must be refused, but it is repeated over and over again. The important factor is that you cannot deny what had happened. It is genocide; there can be no other version. After Germany we hear the expression ‘Never again’, after that- Cambodia, Rwanda, Darfur… the truth is that it must not happen, but it happens,” said Clooney. Clooney says that the UNO doesn’t carry out enough work, the activities of the UNO become more formal, and everything is repeated again. “We live in a world of round-the-clock news, and it forms non-national audience, it becomes a world of numbers, we had better speak about concrete fates, which can have greater impact on the people. My father was also a newsman, I respect that work, but when we turn on the TV, we can listen to more about elections, than human fates.” I am lucky that I was born there, where I was born, and everyone must share his success; it is the goal of my participation,” said George Clooney.
