Vahan Shirkhanyan is in critical condition
The doctor of Vahan Shirkhanyan, a former deputy defense minister of Armenia, will go to the prison on March 16 to examine Shirkhanyan. Talking to A1+, Stepan Voskanyan, the lawyer of the ex-official, said Shirkhanyan’s condition is critical and he has difficulties in moving around. Before his arrest, Shirkhanyan underwent surgery at the V. Avagyan Medical Centre to treat varicose veins in one leg. Now he refuses to take pills His lawyers have filed several petitions asking to trabsfer Shirkhanyan to the hospital for medical examination but their petitions were rejected. Vahan Shirkhan was arrested on December 19, 2015, on suspicion of aiding a criminal gang led by Artur Vardanyan. On November 25, 2015, law enforcement agencies raided a house in Yerevan and arrested nine individuals, including Artur Vardanyan. The National Security Service (NSS) announced that the gang was planning to carry out a series of serious crimes in Armenia. Shirkhanyan has been in custody for 5 months.
