To develop or to remain untouched? Concerns over Iranian-Armenian relations (video)
What dangers can deepening Iranian-Armenian relations pose to Armenia? Vardan Voskanyan, an expert in Iranian studies, says, “Many in Armenia may fear that Iranians will soon begin to pour into Armenia, marry our girls and we shall lose our national purity as a result. But we have to choose between developing our economy and maintaining our purity.” The expert says there are no terrorists among Iranians and we need not worry in this regard. “Of course, I do not exclude that there might be criminals among them but let us leave it on our border services. It is time we put aside our fears.” Vardan Voskanyan says the telephone conversation between Armenia and Iran was an important step in developing relations between the two countries under question. At the same time, he reminds that Iran has officially said that Armenia is an important “corridor” between the Persian Gulf and the Black Sea. “We can expect that in the future the trade between Europe, India and China will be done via Armenia,” he said in conclusion.
