Levon Zurabyan reminds of Ombudsman's actions
Opposition lawmaker Levon Zurabyan knows why the former Ombudsman of Armenia (Karen Andreasyan) tendered his resignation. “There were overt pressures on him, first by one of the MPs, then by the Minister of Education and Science. This was unprecedented. Never had the human rights defender been pressurized before. He was beginning to influence the authorities, especially when he spoke about corruption rates in the judiciary. He also focused on the brutal force used by the police,” Zurabyan said. He says Karen Andreasyan also spoke about electoral fraud during the constitutional referendum. “The pressure was evident but it does not justify him. He was to carry out his mission till the end despite the pressure.”
