Borussia Dortmund star striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has been named the first African Player of the Year. In a vote of coaches and technical directors of Confederation of African Football (CAF) member-nations, the Gabon hitman earned 143 points to win the gong while Manchester City midfielder Yaya Toure finished second with 136. The latter was bidding for a fifth successive award. Armenia national football squad captain Henrikh Mkhitaryan plays in the same team with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. Together, they have scored 42 goals (27+15) since the start of the current season. However, the ‘duo’ is likely to separate soon. Arsenal is reportedly interested in trying to lure Aubameyang as they bid for a first Premier League title for a decade. Arsenal has already offered 60 million euros for the transfer of the 26-year-old Gabon skipper.
