Large and financially disadvantaged families the most vulnerable in terms of forced labor and labor trafficking (video)

Pilot research in order to improve the disclosure of forced labor and labor trafficking among adults and children in Armenia. As a result of the OSCE office in Yerevan, Caucasus Research Resource Center (CRRC)-Armenia organization and the research carried out by the national experts it turned out that large and financially disadvantaged families are the most vulnerable in terms of forced labor and labor trafficking. “The fight against trafficking demands coordinated approach in the criminal, justice as well as in the issue of regulation of labor market. The OSCE office in Yerevan has supported the national institutions in order to implement the OSCE commitments in the fight against trafficking, and our office will continue highlighting the importance of the activities, which aim at improving the current mechanisms of the fight against human trafficking,” said the Ambassador Andrey Sorokin, the Head of the OSCE Office in Yerevan. 300 households in Yerevan, Ararat, Kotayk, Lori and Shirak marzes participated in the poll carried out for the research. About half of the observed labor- 50.6 percent, were long-lasting and took 2 and more years. Relatively shorter labor, which lasted for up to 30 days, was mainly in villages than in Yerevan. 53 percent of the work was connected with labor. The share of the unskilled work in villages makes up 47%. Most of the respondents implemented low-skilled jobs unfit for their qualification. Most of the respondents found their jobs with the help of relatives and friends. About 5 % found their jobs on the Internet. The OSCE office in Yerevan will continue supporting the working group in order to finish designing the new 3-year state project of the fight against trafficking.
