Disgraced former FIFA president Sepp Blatter has said his work in football is officially "finished.” Just one day after receiving an eight-year ban from FIFA, he made a statement many in the world have been waiting to hear. On Monday, Blatter and suspended UEFA president Michel Platini were both banned from any football-related activities for the next eight years for conflict of interest in a two million Swiss franc (£1.35 million) payment deal that is also the subject of a criminal investigation in Switzerland. “I lost faith in our organization on May 27 with this intervention by American law enforcement, Blatter said in an interview with The Wall Street Journal. Though Blatter, 79 years old, plans to appeal the ban imposed by FIFA’s ethics committee and says he had no knowledge of wrongdoing inside FIFA and its member confederations, he has clearly entered the valedictory stage of his long reign over global football, which began in 1998 when he assumed the FIFA presidency. Sepp Blatter is accused of financial fraud, money laundering and abuse of official powers.
