“State murder is legitimized” (video)
The debates of supporters of Yes and No on December 6 constitutional amendments referendum continue. This time Armen Hovhannisyan, representative of “Hayazn” party, and the NA HHK parliamentary faction lawmaker Shirak Torosyan met with the journalists. The latter justifies the necessity for constitutional amendments by two points, “First, our people are used to the parliamentary system of government. Constitution of our country was adopted in 1995. Before that from the legal point of view Armenia had had parliamentary system of government, and the second issue is that the country having such neighbors, facing challenges from outside world doesn’t have a right to leave the responsibility for making political decisions to only one person. It is very dangerous.” In reply to the arguments by Republican lawmaker, Armen Hovhannisyan noted: “Since the establishment of the Republican Party they have never raised such an issue.” The representative of “Hayazn” noted that they are against the new Constitution as it is a bad document and the authorities are trying to solve the issue of their reproduction with the help of it, “They are not able to find a reliable candidate for a president, who will later be able to ensure the welfare of those 100-300 people, that’s why they have decided to shift to the parliamentary system,” he noted by listing some provisions of new Constitution, which limit the right to freedom of speech, the right to freedom of assemblies as well as “legitimize state murder”.
