Organic Halal Meat: Customers from Aleppo continue to buy meat from butcher Hakob in Yerevan (video)
Basturma without a sharp flavor, smoked sujuk (soudjouk), sausages encased in lamb intestine…
Syrian-Armenian butcher Hakob offers Armenians his unusual meat products in the center of Yerevan. In 2012, Hakob arrived in Armenia for 2-3 weeks but the ongoing conflict in Syria forced him to settle in Yerevan. It is three years the butcher has been living and working in Armenia.
His regular customers from Aleppo today visit Buzand 7 to buy meat from Hakob. The assortment in Armenia does not differ from that in Aleppo.
From the sing on the door, one can guess that organic halal meat is sold at the butcher’s and you cannot find pork on sale. Prices here are a bit higher here than in food markets because animals are not slaughtered but are killed mercifully for food.
Today Hakob lives in a rented flat and hopes to buy a home in his homeland one day.
