Levon Aronian's team in the lead in Skopje
Armenia’s best chess player Levon Aronian continues to play successfully at the European Chess Club Cup 2015. In Round 5, Russia’s Siberia whose second player is the Armenian national, took a 3,5: 2,5 lead over the favorite of the tournament – Azerbaijan’s SOCAR. After the game, the Siberians scored 10 points and took the lead on the standings. They are followed by 8 teams. To win the European Cup, Siberia needs to score 3 points in the remaining two rounds. Today, the team will face Macedonia’s Alkaloid which lost to Italian “Padova in Round 5. This year’s European Club Cup takes place from October 18-24 at Aleksandar Palace Hotel in the Karpos Municipality of Skopje, an area well-known to the chess community for the strong Karpos Open, which attracts hundreds of players each year. The tournament is the elite European team event for clubs rather than national teams.
