Baghramyan 26 bears full responsibility for lifers' health
"If anything happens to lifers, who have started an open-ended hunger strike in a Yerevan prison, the full responsibility will lie with Baghramyan 26. The Presidential Palace does not have the political will to make any changes in lifers’ cases,” human rights activist Artur Sakunts told A1+. On October 12, 45 inmates of Nubarashen prison started an open-ended hunger strike demanding that their cases be reviewed. They also wrote a letter to Serzh Sargsyan presenting their demand in it. The head of the Helsinki Citizens' Assembly Vanadzor office, Artur Sakunts, says hunger strike most extreme forms of protest and the life-termers have been struggling for their rights for a long time, demanding a review of the criminal cases and change of regimes. Unable to reach a result and having no other option, they declared hunger strike. Deputy Justice Minister Suren Krmoyan reminds that part of the demands posed by the life-termers has been included in the draft law which was put into circulation in September. “The bill is aimed at improving the situation of life-termers,” he said. Mr Sakunts fears that the Ministry simply wants to alleviate the situation.
