When will the court study the release of life-termer Soghomon Kocharyan? Mnatsakan Martirosyan, a judge of the Court of General Jurisdiction of Yerevan’s Kentron and Nork-Marash districts declines to answer the question. “I cannot give you any information; I have no right to do it, as any information can be interpreted incorrectly,” the judge told A1+. It is up to the court to decide whether Kocharyan will be exempt from punishment or not. Soghomon Kocharyan, who is serving the 21st year of his life-imprisonment term, and was originally sentenced to death in 1995 for killing an ethnic Azeri citizen of Iran, has serious health problems and it is possible that he will be freed from further punishment for he is diagnosed with coronary artery disease. Kocharyan, who has been treating at Grigor Lusavoritch medical center since August 27, cannot walk, sit and eat properly. He receives regular injections, including painkillers.
