Initial results of local elections revealed

Elections to local self-government bodies were held in 22 communities in Armenia on Sunday, September 13. Thirty-one people of the 68 eligible voters went to the polls in Arevis community in Syunik marz to vote for the incumbent Republican Mayor Sasun Sahakyan, the only candidate for the post. The incumbent village heads were also re-elected in the villages of Fantan (Kotayk marz), Ghazaravan (Araghatsotn), Yeghegnu (Lori), Goghtanik (Vayots Dzor), the CEC reports. Incumbent Republican Mayor Artak Gevorgyan, and Artak Avdakyan, a candidate of the Prosperous Armenia Party (BHK), were vying for a mayor's seat in Maralik town in Shirak marz. 1965 of the 3147 eligible voters cast their votes for Artak Gevorgyan and 1110 voted for Artak Avdakyan. About 70 ballots were considered invalid. Two republican candidates – incumbent Mayor Vardan Ghalumyan and Varuzhan Nersisyan - were competing for a mayoral post in Ijevan city in Tavush marz. 8488 out of the 14 153 voters went to the polls with 6240 voting for Vardan Ghalumyan and 2032 for Varuzhan Nersisyan. 205 ballots were considered invalid.
