Ombudsman expects reasonable response from law enforcement authorities (video)
Human Rights Defender Karen Andreasyan only welcomes the assessment of Human Rights Watch on the arrest and charge against 5 members of the Founding Parliament. “I don’t have a right to express my opinion about the ongoing cases and I just can welcome that the international and local human rights organizations carry out the work, which is restricted by the law and we cannot carry out,” said Karen Andreasyan after the government session. HRD expects that reasonable responses will be given to the society in connection with the arrest and detention of the members of the FP. To remind, senior members of Founding Parliament – Zhirayr Sefilyan, Pavel Manukyan, Garegik Chukaszyan, Varuzhan Avetisyan and Gevorg Safaryan -were arrested on April 7 on suspicion of planning to stir up ‘mass disturbances’ at the sites of genocide centenary commemorations on April 24. But on May 4 the measure of restraint chosen against them was replaced with cognizance not to leave the city.
