Armenians do not take top places at European Individual Men’s Chess Championship

Armenian Grandmaster Gabriel Sargissian scored 7.5 points in 11 games and came 18th at the European Individual Men’s Chess Championship that ended in Jerusalem, Israel. Sargissian will participate in the Chess World Cup 2015 along with the chess players who took 1st to 23rd places in Israel. However, his participation is uncertain as the competition will be held in Baku. GM Evgeny Najer became European champion with 8,5 points. The other Armenian chess players took the following places

  3. Hrant Melkumyan (6,5)
  4. Samvel ter-Sahakyan (6)
  5. Karen Grigoryan (6)
  6. Vladimir poghosyan (6)

  8. Zaven Andriasyan (5,5)
Last time Armenia took a medal at a European championship was in 2005 when Levon Aronian won bronze.
