Serzh Sargsyan has addressed a letter to Armenian Parliament Speaker Galust Sahakyan, informing him about his decision to recall the Armenian-Turkish Protocols from the National Assembly. “Respected Mr. Sahakyan, When starting the process of normalization of Armenian-Turkish relations without preconditions, we considered all possible scenarios of future developments. We were ready for both comprehensive normalization of relations through ratification of the protocols and their failure. We had nothing to conceal, as it would become clear to the world which party was guilty of missing the chance to open the last closed border in Europe. Six years have passed after the signing of the protocols. Throughout this period, Armenia has always demonstrated a consistent stance on the implementation of the protocols while Turkey has been continually distorting the letter and spirit of protocols and posing its preconditions, demonstrating a lack of political will. Parallel to this, on the threshold of the 100th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide, Turkey is speeding up its denial policy and 'adjustment' of history. I have spoken about it many times, even raised the issue in the UN in September 2014 but the Turkish authorities turned a deaf ear to Armenia's calls. Therefore, I have decided to recall [from the National Assembly] the protocols “On establishing diplomatic relations between the Republic of Armenia and the Republic of Turkey” and “On developing relations between the Republic of Armenia and the Republic of Turkey” that were signed in Zurich on October 10.”
