Bagrat Asatryan: The burden of reducing hidden economic activities is laid on small businesses
With the introduction of the Law on Turnover Tax, the authorities in Armenia want to shift the burden of reducing shadow economy on small businesses, a former chairman of the Armenian Central Bank said on Sept. 24. “They cannot touch large companies because it is their own business. Many wealthy people hold offices today who do not even conceal the fact that they have accumulated their fortune during their term in office; the calls of coming out of the shade are simply ridiculous,” said Bagrat Asatryan. The economist says the only way to keep the shadow economy relatively small is to make political changes but the new government did not change anything.
