Former Gyumri Mayor on local church fire
A fire broke out in Surb Amenaprkich (Holy Saviour) Church in Armenia's second largest city of Gyumri yesterday evening.
The church was under repairs with the financial assistance of former mayor Vardan Ghukasyan.
Speaking about the cause of the fire, the ex-mayor ruled out premeditation. "Accidents happen now and again," he said.
Although the fire was extinguished overnight, the fire had already damaged the wooden support beams encircling the church dome.
