The ex administration of Armanis mine has dumped wastes instead of clay in the yard of Armanis school. Armanis School Headmaster Aram Mkhoyan told about this to Stepanavan Aarhus Center Coordinator Manya Meliqjanyan: he asked from the ex administration of the mine to provide him clay to construct a ground for the children, but he didn't know that toxic wastes had been dumped instead of clay. Now he has to wait for the new administration to ask to clean the yard from toxic wastes. Manya Meliqjanyan writes about this on www.aarhus.am website. He presented to the administration the findings of the studies carried out by the specialists of American University of Armenia, which says the wastes contain arsenic and other heavy metals. According to Manya Meliqjanyan, the wastes can be found not only in the school yard, but also on the road sides, fields and streets.

Children play in these wastes and frequently complain of headaches and feeling of tiredness. Reminder: Armanis gold mine is currently being developed by "Sagamar" Company.
