Candlelight Memorial for AIDS victims
On Sunday 19 May 2013, for the 30th time, grassroots organisations worldwide commemorated International AIDS Candlelight Memorial. The event takes place every third Sunday in May. On this day, communities raise awareness around HIV, stand together with people living with HIV and remember the loved ones lost to HIV and AIDS.
This year, the New Generation Humanitarian NGO has joined the observance, organizing a candlelight vigil in Vanadzor and Gyumri in memory of the dead.
The participants of the move, including the NGO representatives, volunteers, members of partner organizations and ordinary citizens, called on the society to be tolerant towards HIV-positive people, respect those who died of AIDS and put an end to discrimination.
The theme of the 30th International AIDS Candlelight Memorial is "In solidarity". It emphasizes the need for people living with and affected by HIV to join hands and work together in response to HIV. Candlelight Memorial shows people's respect, solidarity and tolerance.
