Ethnographer: People neglect problems in Armenian families
We, Armenians, need not celebrate Family Day, says ethnographer Armenuhi Stepanyan. "We should not and need not imitate everything from Europe and then, all of a sudden, announce that we need to observe the day and preserve the tradition," she said.
In its resolution 47/237 of 20 September 1993, the United Nations General Assembly, proclaimed that 15 May shall be observed annually as the International Day of Families. Armenia has joined the annual observance since 2011.
The ethnographer regrets to say that today people focus on formalities, neglecting the problems existing in Armenian families.
