How old are amusement rides in Yerevan?
Some 126 amusement rides are operating in Armenia: 83 are located in Yerevan, six in Kotayk province, nine in Lori, 19 in Shirak and nine in Syunik. However, not all of them have undergone technical inspections, says Lusine Hovhannisyan, an expert of the National Center for Technical Safety at the Ministry of Emergency Situations.
"Although 70% of the rides were built in the Soviet period, about over twenty years ago, none of them has received a negative opinion. Amusement rides should undergo safety testing at least once a year before operation," she said adding that nine rides have received positive assurance, with another 53 being still under technical expertise.
The expert says the average life of the rides is 40-50 years, depending on the height, complexity and free fall range of the rides, especially if they operate 4-5 months a year.
Seven new rides have been installed in Yerevan this year.
