Why the hail on May 12 spoilt the harvest? Robert Hovsepyan, president of "Service of active influence on atmosphere phenomena" NGO says, that for more effective protection from hail we need more anti-hail stations.

"Today, in our region and among former USSR countries Armenia is the only country that has a anti-hail service. We have 2 radiolocation stations in Lori and Aragatsotn regions and 154 anti-hail stations", he said.

According to him, anti-hail stations functioning in 4 regions protect only 13.000 hectares out of 50.000. One station protects an area of 500 square meters.
"Those stations are automated. They all together have fired about 50.000 shots in recent days. Yet, as there are few stations and the hail-fall was intensive, we could not avoid catastrophic consequences", he said.

Robert Hovsepyan claims, that all shots fired by those stations are registered in computers, second by second. Yet there are stations in regions, which do not have that option and shoot without any computer correction. That can lead to the opposite effect, that is hail-fall.
