Meghradzor residents hold protest demo outside presidential residence
Some thirty residents of Meghradzor village today held a protest demonstration in front of the presidential residence in Yerevan against the construction of a cyanic plant in Meghradzor. The participants of the action were carrying placards and posters with the inscription, "NO to Cyanide in Meghradzor," "For the sake of our children" and the like.
A group of environmentalists and ordinary citizens had joined the group outside the residence. The protesters handed in an application letter addressed to Serzh Sargsyan with the signature of 650 Meghradzor villagers.
In the letter they claim that Meghradzor is threatened to turn into an area of environmental disaster. They also speak about the threats menacing the village in case the cyanic plant is put into operation.
"Each cycle of production threatens a hazard - during transportation, storage, preparation of solutions and gold extraction. While nothing about these risks in the project. They write the cycle is closed, though it's knows there are no absolutely closed cycles. There is a human factor, technical factor, at last breakdown factor," reads the letter.
The protesters are determined to resolute in their decision to prevent the construction of the cyanic plant in their village.
