At the invitation of Mayor of Lyon Gérard Collomb, Yerevan Mayor Taron Margaryan will attend the Fete des Lumieres (Festival of Lights) in Lyon to be held on December 5-9.
On the sidelines of the visit, Taron Margaryan will meet Gérard Collomb and representatives of the local Armenian community. The Yerevan Mayor will also attend the symposiums to be held within the framework of the Festival of Lights.
The meetings will focus on issues of bilateral and multilateral cooperation, as well as the Second Armenian-French Decentralized Cooperation Conference to be held in Valence, France, in 2013, the Information and Public Relations Department of Yerevan Municipality reports.
During the annual festival of lights, Lyon is alit for four days. Each house places candles in their windows, and the national landmarks, including the Basilica of Fourviere, are lit in various colors. Each year, a different light show can be seen at the Places des Terreaux. The annual event is celebrated to honor the Virgin Mary. In addition to the lights, the Old City is filled with street parades and music. Each night during the festival, the street lights are put out, which only enhances the multi-colored lit monuments and candle filled houses.
