MES: TaTever complies with international standards
As a result of Sunday's lightning that struck Halidzor village in Syunik Region, the security system of "TaTever" ("Wings of Tatev") cableway automatically stopped the operation of the ropeway. Rescuers were called to evacuate the stranded passengers. At around 7 p.m. all the 41 passengers stranded in two cable cars eighteen meters above the ground were removed and taken to a safe place.
Seventeen of the passengers were foreigners, eighteen were women and children.
Later in the same day, the Ministry of Emergency Situations issued a statement, saying the cableway is designed so that it stops operation in adverse weather conditions. Once the weather conditions better, all operations are resumed automatically.
Thanks to high professionalism and combined efforts of the MES employees and "TaTever" management, all the passengers of the cableway were rapidly evacuated and provided with temporary shelter and food. Psychologists were called to help them. Police officers and ambulance staff were also on hand.
The cableway undergoes safety inspections every year. During the last inspection, specialists of Garaventa-Dopplemayr Austrian-Swiss Company said all systems of the cableway were in excellent condition.
The incident and the gratitude of the evacuated passengers show that the security systems of "TaTever" and preparedness of its staff fully comply with the highest international standards.
"TaTever" management expresses its gratitude to the Ministry of Emergency Situations, rescuers, police and ambulance representatives for quick response and professional work.
