Poarching case in Armenia discovered

Police in Armenia have revealed the case of poaching in Kakavaberd sector of Khosrov reserve that has aroused wide public resonance and was largely discussed by local mass media.

In September, 2012, members of ''Khosrov Reserve" civil initiative visited Khosrov reserve to discover traces of fire, domestic waste, empty bottles, dismembered corpses of animals in Kakavaberd sector of the forest. In particular, they found remainders of slaughtered rabbit, European brown bear, Bezoar goat and there was unbearable stench in the area.

A criminal case was initiated in the Investigation Department of Ararat marz (province) under Article 294 (Part 1) of the Armenian Criminal Code. According to the police, the poacher is 29-year old Norik Sargsyan, a resident of Garni village, who works at water supply protection service. Sargsyan reportedly prepared a trap for the animals and killed them.

The police also found a double-barreled rifle and other hunting supplies.

The circumstances of the hunting and the extent of damage are being clarified. Investigation is underway.
