Japanese Ambassador receives medal 11 months later

Sumio Edamura, Chairman of the Japan-Armenia Association, has been awarded with the Mkhitar Gosh Medal. The ceremony was held at the Armenian Embassy in Japan, RA MFA press service reports.

Sumio Edamura was awarded still in September 2011for his significant contribution to the reinforcement and development of friendly ties between Armenia and Japan. The medal was handed over by Armenia's Ambassador to Japan Hrant Poghosyan.

Sumio Edamura was accredited as Japan's first-ever Ambassador to Armenia in 1992 (residence in Moscow). He played a considerable role in the establishment and development of diplomatic and economic ties between the two countries.

For 13 years, Sumio Edamura has been heading the Japan-Armenia Association, which enhances development of political discourse and friendly ties between Armenia and Japan.
